Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day and get to spend it with the people that you love. Christmas is my favorite day of the year, not because of the presents (although I'm sure everyone loves getting presents including me) but because I get to spend the day with my family. To me the reason I love Christmas so much is because I'm reminded that God sent his son to give us salvation and that is the greatest gift that anyone can ever get.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

How many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me!
How Many Kings -Downhere

Christmas Tag!

Elle Fowler did this tag on youtube. She combined questions from a bunch of different Holiday tags. I thought it would be fun to do. I just love tags. If I made youtube videos I'm sure that I would film tags all the time lol. There are some questions that I've already answered in the Holly Jolly Tag 2.

1) Do you like to stay in your PJ's, or dress up for Christmas?
I always dress up for Christmas. Most years I got to my aunt's house so obviously I'm not going to go there in my pajamas. Even if I spend Christmas Day at home I always dress up because it jusdt makes the day more special for me.

2) If you could only buy one person a present this year who would it be?
It would be my mom because she does so much for me throughout the year and she deserves it.

3) Do you open your presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
I was always allowed to open one small present on Christmas Eve and everything else on Christmas Morning.

4) Have you ever built a Gingerbread house?
Yes. I was probably 11 the last time I built a gingerbread house and I remember making it.

5) What do you like to do on your Christmas break?
Spend time with family and friends, bake holiday treats, go shopping, dinner and to the movies with my besties, watch movies, catch up on TV shows, read a lot, etc.

6) Favorite Christmas meal or treat?
Lasagna, almond crescents cookies, suagr cookies, butter cookies.

7) What's your favorite holiday movie?
Two movies that I need to watch every year are The Holiday and Eloise at Christmastime.

8) Candy Canes or Gingerbread Men?
Gingerbread Men.

9) Have you ever made a Snowman?
Yes, many times when I was little.

10) Which do you like better, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
I like Christmas Day more than Christmas Eve because that's when I get to see my whole family.

11) White lights, or colored lights?
I prefer white lights because they look more classic to me.

I tag anyone who wants to do this. Hope you're having a good day. xoxo -JoJo

MAC Syrup Lipstick Review + Swatch

MAC Syrup is currently one of my favorite lipsticks. I've worn it almost everyday since I got it last  month. The color is beautiful. MAC describes this color as a cloudy pink. It's a mauvy pinky almost berry color.

It's basically my natural lip color but better. It's a perfect everyday color but it also works for any occasion because it looks good with everything.

This lipstick has lustre finish so it's not very moisturizing. If you don't already do so I'd suggest applying a lip balm before applying this lipstick so that your lips will stay moisturized.

MAC lipstick retail at $18 CAN. This color is a great investment for me because I've already gotten so much use out of it.

If you're looking for a dupe I've heard that Rimmel London's Vintage Pink lipstick is a good dupe for MAC Syrup. I've swatch both colors side by side at the drugstore. Vintage Pink looks nice but it's more pink than MAC Syrup.

NOTD: OPI Quarter of a Cent-Cherry

Since Christmas is coming up I thought it would be really festive to paint my nails red. Usually when I want to wear a festive red I turn to OPI Wocka Wocka but the bottle fell and broke and red polish went all over my kitchen floor. It was not pretty. I need to replace that polish and since it was limited edition I couldn't get that one again. So I went to Trade Secrets, looked at all the red OPI nail polish and found that Quater of a Cent-Cherry was a really nice deep holiday red. OPI describes it as a rich cherry red that's always a classic. That's basically it. I love this red more than OPI Red because this is a real cherry red. I've been looking for a red like this for a long time. I love that OPI has so many different shades of the same color because you get so much variety to choose from.

OPI Quarter of a Cent-Cherry has a thick and creamy formula. One coat actually looked like it would be opaque enough but I applied two coats because I always do that. I find that two coats of polish is always better than one because it just makes me feel like it won't chip as fast. I know that OPI nail polish tends to be more expensive but it lasts long on my nails. Just like a classic red lipstick a classic red nail polish is a good investment. Everyone needs a classic red in their nail polish collection and this one has become mine. The glitter on my accent nail is OPI Excuse Moi from last year's holiday collection the Muppets Collection.

If you live anywhere that has a Trade Secrets they're having a sale. If you buy 3 OPI polishes you get 20% off. I thought that was a good deal. OPI nail polish typically retails for $9.95 at least where I live it does.
I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season. xoxo -JoJo

Random thoughts: The series finale of Gossip Girl is tomorrow! Most of my friends stopped watching it but I never gave up on it because I always had hope in Chuck & Blair. I'm kind of sad that it's ending but I'm also glad that Chuck & Blair will finally get their chairytale ending.

Holly Jolly Tag 2

Since Christmas is coming up I thought it would be fun to do this tag. I’ve been MIA for the past month because of finals but now I’m done and I will have more beauty related posts coming soon.

1. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?
Here in Canada we don't really have Black Friday. Recently there have been some Black Friday sales but it's not a big thing here... this year I actually started Christmas shopping a little bit before Black Friday.

2. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?
I don't know... probably Home Alone 2 because it would be cool to spend Christmas in New York although I wouldn’t want to be there alone.

3. Which do you like better:  Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
I like Christmas Day better than Christmas Eve because Christmas Day is the day that I see my whole family.

4. When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?
We usually put up the Christmas tree after December 5th because that's my mom's birthday and she always wants to wait until after her birthday to put it up. This year we put it up on November 17th (my birthday) because we bought a new one and we just wanted to put it up, but we completely decorated it on November 24th because that was the only day that my mom and I both had free time. My mom and I always decorate it together and my dad just watches us and complains about where we put all the ornaments.

5. White lights or colored lights?
I like colored lights but I prefer white lights. I just think white lights are more classy.

6. Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like the surprise?
I don't look for my presents. My mom is not good at being subtle and I can usually figure out what she got me by the little hints she drops and she doesn't even realize it. I remember looking for my presents one year when I was probably 9 or 10. I ended up trying to unwrap one and it didn't work. I don't think I ever did it again.

7. Would you rather live in a gingerbread house or in Santa's Workshop?
Living in a gingerbread house would be cool.

8. Tell us your Christmas Eve traditions!
Watching a Christmas movie with my family, singing my favorite Christmas song O Holy Night, eating tiramisu and opening presents of midnight.

9. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone who would it be?
Haha... I have a person in mind but I won't say it. My best friend can figure it out lol. If I could be under the mistletoe with a fictional character I'd pick Chuck Bass ;) If it would be a celebrity I don't even know who I would pick...

10. What tops your tree?
It's always a star.

11. Can you name the 12 days of Christmas?
I have a good memory and I can usually memorize songs easily but this is one song that I can never remember. I can try... a partridge in a pear tree, 2 turtle doves, 3 french hens, 5 golden rings, 9 ladies dancing, 11 pipers piping, 12 drummers drumming. Well that was a fail.

12. Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?
I've never gone Christmas caroling even though I love singing.

13. Do you countdown to Christmas?
If so, how many days are left? Every year I try to countdown the days till Christmas. I believe there are 12 days till Christmas.

14. What are some foods and treats you can count on having every holiday season?
Cookies, cookies, cookies. Of course the classic sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies but then there's countless the Italian cookies. My favorite ones are almond crescent cookies. Ferreo Rocher and Baci chocolate. Torrone. Being Italian I can always count on the fact that there will the pasta on Christmas day. It's usually lasagna that my aunt makes. There's always at least one panettone which I hate or pandoro which I like made into bread pudding.

15. How has Christmas kept its magic for you as you've grown older?
Spending time with family, sitting by the Christmas tree and most importantly going to the Christmas service at church, hearing the choir sing all the Christmas hymns and just being reminded that Jesus is the reason for Christmas. Christmas music always makes me happy. Hark the Herald Angels Sing by Amanda Noelle f. Anthem lights has put me in the Christmas spirit this year. I also love Anthem Lights' cover of All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrate it. Happy Holidays to all! xoxo –JoJo

Would You Rather Tag - Beauty Edition

Today I am home sick and decided to do the Would You Rather Beauty Edition tag. There are a few versions of this tag floating around but this is the one that I found.

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?

This is such a difficult question because I love all my make up... I'd say all my mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks and lip glosses because my urban decay naked palette is my favorite thing that I own and it gets a lot of use. I would be able to repurchase my favorite mascara, lip gloss, eyeliner and lipstick for less than what my eyeshadow palette costs.

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

Never be able to cut it again because I would like to see how long my hair can actually get. I have medium/long hair right now and if my hair was longer I'd be able to make a really pretty fishtail braid.

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Coral cheek. I prefer coral toned blushes more than pink blushes with my skin tone.

4. If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

I'd probably buy something really special that I would have for years like a pair of Christian Louboutins.

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

Probably eyeliner as lipstick. I'd use a nude colored eyeliner.

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

I love MAC so much but I'd have to say Sephora because they sell a variety of brands whereas MAC only sells their own brand. By only shopping at Sephora I have a ton of options but with MAC I'd have no other options forever.

7.  Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

I use mostly neutral eyeshadow shades but I always gravitate towards similar lip shades. I'd say only one lip color and I'd pick a color that goes with everything. Then if I want more colors I could use eyeshadow as lip stick if I want to switch it up.

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Summer clothes in winter because you can pair them with warmer clothes so that you're not cold. Wearing winter clothes in summer would be awful.

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Dark nails because I don't always like to wear bright nail polish and I'm loving dark nails right now.

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

My favorite lip product because those change often whereas my favorite eye products always stay the same.

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

Messy bun because my hair is thick and curly. A messy bun is just better at keeping my hair pulled back. It's my go-to hairstyle when I'm having a bad hair day. My friend actually complimented me on my hair last week when I wore it in a bun.

12. Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

Never use lipgloss. As someone who is obsessed with nail polish I would never be able to give that up.

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

I hate the look of drawn in eyebrows but I wouldn't want to lose my eyebrows. I'd rather sharpie them in everyday although my eyebrows don't require much filling in and I typically don't fill them in the begin with. I usually fill them in for events, it's rare that I'll do it on a regular day.

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

This is the worst question ever! I love make up and I love nail polish. My love for nail polish began before I even started wearing make up but I always wear make up even if it's just concealer and lip balm. I choose none of the above.

If you're reading this I tag you to do this.

NOTD: OPI Mrs. O'Leary's BBQ

I bought this color at the beginning of the month and I have been obsessed with it. This has become my go-to fall nail polish. OPI describes Mrs. O'Leary's BBQ as "a deliciously saucy shade of molasses." I like to joke about it being the color of barbecue sauce but it's a deep burgundy. It's the perfect color for the oxblood trend. Pictures don't do this color justice. I've tried countless time to capture the beauty of the color on camera this is the closest I could get.

The formula is pretty thick and easy to apply. 2 coats will give you the desired opacity. The color lasts about 4-5 days on me before it visibly chips.

NOTD: Revlon Colorstay nail enamel in Bold Sangria

Everyone has been raving about the Revlon Colorstay nail polish every since it came out. I was always skeptical about trying it because regular Revlon nail polish always chips super fast on me. I finally decided to try this nail polish because the color is so beautiful. Bold Sangria is a really nice creamy purple. It's the perfect purple in my opinion.

The formula is really think and easy to work with. One coat is almost enough but I felt like 2 coats was better. This nail polish is supposed to last like a week without chipping. On my nails it chipped after 3 days. Formula wise I get why people love it. I love that it has a thick formula. I love this color but Revlon nail polish is not my favorite. I'm an OPI and Essie girl so it's really hard for me to love other brands because I tend to compare everything to OPI or Essie.

P.S. I haven't posted much in the past 3 weeks because I had midterms and tons of assignments. Now that my midterms are over I will make time to post more. xoxo -JoJo

NOTD: OPI Wocka Wocka! & Excuse Moi!

The other day I was looking through my nail polish trying to figure out what color I wanted to paint my nails. I remembered that I had a box of mini OPI nail polishes from the Muppets collection. This box had all the colors that I wanted from the collection. When it came out I didn't buy it and I was sad about it because they were limited edition but in March when I went to New York I found it at the Disney store. My friend and I were so happy to find it. A few weeks ago I saw the same box at Winners and that reminded me that I had it and I hardly wear the colors. The mini nail polish box came with 4 colors: Wocka Wocka!, Excuse Moi!, Designer... de Better! and Warm & Fozzie. Out of the 4 colors Warm & Fozzie is the color that I desperately wanted so I'm glad I was able to find this. Wocka Wocka! is a shiny deep red nail polish. I would call it a true red but it's really shiny, the shine kind of has a slight pinky undertone. Excuse Moi! is a multicolored glitter nail polish with a red undertone which makes it perfect for layering over a red polish. I'm sure you can find dupes of these colors if you didn't have a chance to get them.

I've had this polish on my nails for the past 5 days and on my left hand you can see that it's starting to chip. On my right hand my index finger has chipped a lot. I have on 2 coats of Wocka Wocka! and 3 coats of Excuse Moi! over Wocka Wocka! as an accent nail.

I wanted to show Wocka Wocka in flash as well as in natural light because the color somewhat changes in different lighting. In my opinion these colors are perfect to wear around Christmas time because I always associate glitter with the holidays but every once in a while some glitter on your nails adds a nice touch.

Random thought of the day: Yesterday I finished reading Insurgent and I'm dying to know what happens in the third book of the trilogy. Then I found out that that the third book will be released in Fall 2013! I have to wait a whole year to find out how it all ends! :(

NOTD: Pacific Blue

Today my friend told me to paint my pinky finger blue because it symbolizes that you're against bullying. Since I've never worn Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail color in Pacific Blue I decided to paint all my nails blue. I own too much blue nail polish but this is unlike any color that I own. I am seriously in love with this color! It's a bright periwinkle blue. It's definitely not a fall color but it's beautiful! I'd wear it all year round.

Many youtubers and bloggers rave about this color, it's usually sold out at the drugstore and now I know why. The formula is amazing! It's really thick. One coat is enough for it to be perfectly opaque. I can't any anything bad about this nail polish. If you see it I suggest that you grab it. These nail polishes are never more than $5. I paid $4.49 at Shopper's Drug Mart. It often goes on sale and you can find it at any drugstore. I'd that the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polish is the best drugstore brand of nail polish. (I consider Essie to be high end even though you can find it at the drugstore.)

The only downside to this nail polish is that it chips easily.

Random thoughts  news  freak out of the day: I'm freaking out because Luke Conard will be touring with Alex Goot in November, and they're coming to my city, and Ingrid is coming too! My bestie is friends with one of the bands that's opening for him and is getting us tickets. And the concert is right after both of our birthdays. :D

NOTD: Essie No More Film

I got this nail polish back in March at a store called Beauty 35 in New York City. The reason why I bought it in New York was because it was cheaper. I think I paid $5.29 which is really good because here it ranges from $7.99-$11.99 depending where you go. I'm saying this to let you know that if you happen to be in New York I suggest that you go to Beauty 35. It's on 8th & 35th. It was part of Essie's 2012 Resort collection. I think it's limited edition but I'm not entirely sure. Anyways Essie  describes this colour as " a creamy, seductive deep violet." It's a really dark purple. It's very purple, almost blue. I don't know why it was in a Spring collection because it's so dark. I think it's a good colour for Fall because of it's darkness.

This photo is really random but I took it like this so that you can see the what the colour really looks like. The formula is very thick, probably the thickest Essie polish I've ever seen. It's also very creamy and opaque. Since the formula is so thick one coat is enough for maximum opacity. I guess you could do 2 coats if you want. When wearing this polish I always put on only one coat.
Random thought of the day: I'm obsessed with Anthem Lights.

NOTD: Every Month is Oktoberfest

My nail polish obsession continues with OPI's Every Month is Oktoberfest from their Germany collection. How I got this polish is quite a story. I was originally drawn to it the first time I saw the collection in stores about a month ago and I didn't buy it right away. I went back a week later and it was sold old. I went to 4 different stores to try to find this colour and it was sold out everywhere. I had accepted the fact that I would never be able to get my hands on this polish when last Thursday I went to Winners (Canadian version of Marshalls/TJ Maxx.) and it was there. I took advantage of the fact that it was there and it cost less than what you'd pay at the beauty shops. Instead of $9.99 which is what it typically costs here it was $7.99.

OPI describes this colour as the perfect plum. I'm not really sure what to call it because it has many different colours mixed into it with a purple undertone. When I look at my nails I hints of burgundy, purple and micro glitter. I am in love with this colour and I'll be wearing it a lot this season. In this photo the colour looks way darker than it does in person. I like to use natural light when taking pictures. I tried to get a picture with flash but that made it look worse. My advice is that you should see this colour in person if you can get your hands on it. If you find it at Winners definitely grab it.

The formula is pretty thick and one coat would be enough but I always put on two coats of polish just to make it look perfect. If you're not a perfectionist like me you can get away with one coat.

NOTD: Essie Plumberry

Today's NOTD is yet another Essie polish. Can you tell I'm obsessed with this brand? lol. I bought this colour last fall. The name just sounds like fall to me. It's a really nice red. Essie describes it as "a creamy berry red with hints of plush pink." I like it because it's in between a red and a fuchsia. It's way more red in person. The colour changes in different lighting. Sometimes it looks very red and other times it has a pinky tint to it.

The formula is very creamy and thick. Minimal effort is involved for an opaque finish. You might be able to get away with one coat but I think 2 coats is always better. If you want a shade lighter and brighter than the burgundy colours that are hot for fall you should definitely try this one.

Gentleman of Her Dreams Book Review

Gentleman of Her DreamsGentleman of Her Dreams by Jen Turano
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I got this book for free from Amazon and I really enjoyed it. It's a fairly short story so you can read it in one sitting.

Charlotte is convinced that she must marry Mr. Hamilton Beckett because she thinks God wants her to. The only problem, she's never met him. She enlists the help of her best friend Henry who has just returned to New York after being away for 2 years and he's looking better than ever. Henry can never say no to Charlotte. He'd do anything for her. She has him wrapped around her finger and doesn't know it. They both think that they other doesn't reciprocate the same feelings because of a misunderstanding. Will they be able to admit their feelings for each other before it's too late?

It's a cute story that will have you laughing at Charlotte's clumsiness and rooting for Henry. It's pretty obvious about what happens in the end but the journey to get there is quite entertaining.

Beneath the Glitter Book Review

Beneath the GlitterBeneath the Glitter by Elle Fowler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

At the beginning of the book I wasn't really sure if I would like it because it starts off kind of confusing, but the more I read it, the more I liked it.

Beneath the Glitter is a book that follows the lives of youtube stars Ava and Sophia London. They live in LA and their careers are finally taking off and so is their love lives.

Ava meets Liam an actor that she's had a crush on since she was 12. They have an instant connection. They have lots of things in common. She's really good for his rep. She also meets Dalton who is her complete opposite and they butt heads about almost everything.

Sophia is on a boytox. She meets Giovanni who always seems to know what she's thinking before she knows it. His accent is to die for but he's a bartender and an artist. She also meets Hunter, the guy who can make her dreams come true at any time. Who will she choose?

Full of funny moments, interesting friends and adorable pets, Beneath the Glitter keeps you wanting more. If you like Lauren Conrad's LA Candy series and The Fame Game you will like this book as well.

The ending was cryptic and mysterious and I'm dying to know what happens next. I'm highly anticipating the sequel.

Mini Drugstore Haul

These are products that I've purchased at the drugstore in the past month.

Bioderma. I've been wanting to try this for quite some time but I always put it off because it's expensive. I paid $22 for it and I'll admit that was a lot but this stuff is amazing! It removes your make up and cleans your face at the same time. Whenever I use it my skin feels refreshed. Although because of the cost I'm trying to ration it. It costs a lot but it's worth it.

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish in Pacific Blue and Flirt. I've been looking for Pacific Blue for the past few months and it was always sold out so when I saw it I jumped at the chance to get it. Flirt looked like a nice purple for fall so I got that too.

L'oreal Colour Caresse by Colour Riche in 172 Blushing Sequin. I love this lipstick! It's made with 50% less wax than a normal lipstick. It's so moisturizing. The only downside to this is that it's not exactly long wearing. I found that it lasts 5-6 hours. I've noticed that most of the colour fades away but it still leave a hint of colour like a lip stain would which I like.
